1. Company and scope
ALTUS PLATFORM LLC operates Altus Language School and its online learning platform at altusplatform.net. These Terms cover our website, language lessons, learning materials and study tools.
Our services are delivered online, primarily to Portuguese-speaking learners in Japan. The United States address below is provided for company correspondence.
By creating an account, subscribing to a plan or using the platform, you agree to these Terms. Review the price, service schedule and renewal conditions before purchasing.
The Portuguese terms are available at /terms-conditions and the Japanese commercial disclosure at /legal-notice. Mandatory consumer rights remain applicable; this English version does not remove those rights.

2. Services and delivery
We provide online English and Japanese language lessons with teachers and access to our learning platform. Your selected plan determines the weekly lesson frequency. Study materials, exercises, assessments and progress tracking support your lessons.
Lessons take place online. Course, level, available group and lesson times are arranged with the school according to availability. There are no physical goods to ship.
After your account and course enrollment are set up, you can access the student area to see your course and contract. Study-platform access for registered courses is normally enabled independently of payment confirmation and may be managed manually by the school. Lesson and billing arrangements remain those in your contract.
The platform supports study between lessons. It does not replace a teacher. Progress depends on participation and practice; we do not guarantee fluency, a particular proficiency level, examination score or completion time.
3. Your account
Provide accurate registration details and keep them up to date. Each account is personal and may not be shared, transferred or resold.
Keep your password confidential and contact us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access.
Learners under 18 need the consent of a parent or legal guardian, who also accepts these Terms.
4. Prices, payment and renewal
Our standard monthly lesson plans are priced in Japanese yen (JPY):
1 lesson per week — ¥12,480 per month.
2 lessons per week — ¥24,000 per month.
3 lessons per week — ¥30,000 per month.
4 lessons per week — ¥36,000 per month.
5 lessons per week — ¥40,000 per month.
A one-time enrollment fee of ¥22,000 is charged with the first monthly payment. It covers level assessment, an individual study plan, account setup and course materials. It is not charged again on subsequent monthly renewals.
The school may discount or waive the enrollment fee through an individual offer. Monthly lesson prices are fixed and are not negotiable. Any enrollment discount is shown before payment.
Platform access is included in the lesson plan and is not sold as a standalone subscription. There is no separate materials fee or cancellation penalty. We bear card-processing fees; you pay your own internet and connection costs.
Payments are made through Stripe or another method expressly arranged with the school. Submitting an account-registration form alone does not charge your card.
Where you purchase a recurring Stripe subscription, monthly billing renews automatically until cancellation. The checkout and student area show the applicable amount and renewal date. School-managed payment arrangements follow the amounts, dates and conditions in your individual contract.
5. Cancellation and refunds
You may cancel without a cancellation penalty and without giving a reason. For an eligible subscription, sign in and use the cancellation controls in the student subscription area at /aluno/assinatura. Contact support if your plan is managed by the school or the controls are unavailable.
Cancellation stops future renewals. Lessons remain available through the end of the paid period. Canceling a subscription does not automatically close your account or block study-platform access.
For an ordinary voluntary cancellation, unused days are not refunded proportionally. The enrollment fee is not refundable once the enrollment services have begun, and delivered digital materials cannot be returned. These conditions are subject to mandatory consumer rights and the exceptions described in our Refund and Cancellation Policy.
If we close your account without a breach of these Terms by you, we refund the unused part of the paid service period. See /en/refund-policy for the request process and further details.
Nothing in these Terms excludes any cooling-off, statutory cancellation, refund or other remedy required by applicable law, including Japanese consumer law where applicable.
6. Materials and intellectual property
Lesson texts, audio, illustrations, exercises and course organization belong to the school or its licensors. You receive a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the materials for your own study while you are a student.
You may not copy, redistribute, publish, resell or record our lessons for republication without permission.
You retain ownership of the answers, writing, recordings and questions you submit. You authorize us to store and process those submissions as needed to provide lessons, assessment, support and progress tracking, as described in the Privacy Policy.
7. AI and speech features
Some learning materials and support features use artificial intelligence, including exercises, translations, pronunciation audio and speech transcription. These tools may make mistakes and do not replace a teacher or a definitive language reference.
Microphone features require your permission. Depending on the feature and browser, spoken practice may be processed by a speech-recognition provider. The Privacy Policy explains this processing.
Do not use our educational AI features as medical, legal, financial or other professional advice.
8. Acceptable use
You must not:
- Share account access or redistribute school materials.
- Use unauthorized bots, scraping or automated access.
- Bypass access restrictions, usage limits, quotas or security controls.
- Upload unlawful, abusive or discriminatory content, or content that infringes another person’s rights.
- Disrupt lessons or harass teachers, students or staff.
9. Suspension and closure
We may suspend or close an account for a breach of these Terms or conduct that harms students, teachers or the service. Serious breaches may require immediate suspension; otherwise, we provide notice and an opportunity to correct the issue.
Outstanding payments do not automatically block study-platform access. Contract and payment obligations continue to be handled separately by the school.
If we close an account without a breach by the customer, the unused paid service period is refunded.
10. Availability and responsibility
The platform may be interrupted by maintenance, updates or failures affecting internet access, electricity or external providers. We do not promise uninterrupted availability.
For a prolonged interruption caused by the school, we compensate the lost service time by extending the contracted period, without limiting any remedy required by law.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, our liability is limited to the amount you paid in the 12 months preceding the event. This limitation does not apply where it would unlawfully exclude or restrict liability or mandatory consumer rights.
11. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy at /en/privacy-policy explains the personal data we process, the providers we use and how to contact us about your data.
12. Changes to these Terms
We update the effective date when these Terms change. Material changes to prices, cancellation conditions or service scope are announced at least 30 days in advance by email and in the platform.
You may cancel before a change takes effect without a cancellation penalty. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance to the extent permitted by applicable law.
13. Applicable law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan. Disputes are subject to the Nagoya District Court, except where applicable law gives a consumer the right to use another court, including the court of their domicile.
The school’s Japanese commercial disclosure is available at /legal-notice. It is the Japanese disclosure for local regulatory purposes. No language version or choice of law overrides mandatory protections applicable to you.
Please contact us first so we can try to resolve a problem directly.
